Iran on the Way to Export WeaponsMahdi Poursafa
Based on the Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 2231 that will expire by October 18, 2020, the arms embargo on Iran must end 5 years after the endorsement of the JCPOA by the Security Council. America and Israel have been trying hard to extend the arms embargo that has been making headlines recently. Their latest effort was to share a draft resolution with members of the UNSCR and seek indefinite arms embargo on Iran in order to prevent the country from entering the conventional arms market.
Having said all that, there is a point about Iran that we should never ignore. Iranians who defended their country during eight years of Iran-Iraq war (known as the Imposed War) despite all the sanctions and limitations and without any outside aid, now have trust and confidence in themselves and try to achieve significant goals, knowing that no one else would help them on this way. During the past 4 decades, Iranians not only provided weapons for the military needs of their country and established an active deterrence and a great security in the most critical regions of the world, but also succeeded to rival with the most advanced countries in the field of weapon production.
Iran can produce a big variety of missiles which can draw the attention of international costumers.
The Missile Products
One of the most important achievements of the Islamic Republic of Iran is the production of cruise and ballistic missiles and today it is one of the countries in the world with missile technology and capable of producing advanced equipment.
Iran can produce a big variety of missiles which can draw the attention of international costumers. These products have been successfully tried in real battlefields against the ISIS and also against the Ayn al-Asad airbase that belonged to the terrorist forces of the US army. Shahab, Fateh 110, Qiam, Zelzal, Fateh 313, Zolfaqar, Hormoz, Qadr, Sejjil, Khorramshahr, Dezfoul, Fateh Mobin, and Ra’ad 500 are the names of some of Iran’s ballistic missiles, and Hoveyzeh, Nasr, Qaded 3 are the names of its cruise missiles, each capable of finding a place in the global weapons market.
Iran’s surface vessels can also stay at sea for long periods of time and have high thrust which can sell well in the international market
Marine Corps Equipment
America, Germany, and Russia are the leaders of marine equipment production and have a lot of customers from around the world. However, Iran has also had big achievements in this field and can now produce such equipment with a good quality and a lesser price which will be attractive to customers.
In production of surface vessels, Iran has had a stunning progress, producing Sahand, Jamaran, and the new Damavand destroyers that are capable of performing surface missions and anti-surface, anti-subsurface, and anti-aircraft operations. They can also stay at sea for long periods of time and have high thrust which can sell well in the international market. Moreover, Sahand Destroyer has the capability of carrying helicopters.d
Another naval achievement by Iran is the production of speedboats like Zolfaqar, Zoljanah, Seraj, and Shahid Nazeri. If Iranian authorities decide to export these speed boats, they will get popular around the world and the country's defense industry will benefit greatly.
Iranian UAVs also can be used not only in military fields but also in in fields of science, reaserch, etc.
Iranian UAVs Competing with Foreign Drones
In field of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) too, Iran has been successful, producing various high-quality products that can find a place in the global market after the end of the arms embargo on October 18. According to the Defense Ministry’s officials and also Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the commander of Aerospace Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, today Iran is the biggest power in the region and one of the top 4 countries in the world in field of UAV production, having a good stand in the world.
Considering the different applications of drones in different industries, the Iranian UAVs also can be used not only in military fields but also in in fields of science, reaserch, etc. Shahed, Mohajer, Ababil, Kaman 12, khodkar, and Karrar each has a special feature and can sell pretty well in the global market for military equipment.
The comprehensive sanctions against Iran, particularly in defense systems, made the country move toward reconstructing and producing air defense equipment
Air Defense Systems, a Glory in Global Market
The significant progress in the production of stealth drones, fighters, and planes shows the importance of radar and air defense systems. In fact, it is one the most advanced industries in the world. An air defense system has different equipment and various capabilities. In these systems, other than advanced radars used to track down invading flights and monitor the skies of countries, very advanced missile systems are used to counter and shoot down the invaders.
The comprehensive sanctions against Iran, particularly in defense systems, made the country move toward reconstructing and producing air defense equipment. On this way, Iran has achieved a lot of success and could build Khordad 3 air defense system which downed a very advanced intruding US drone, surprising the world. Iran has different air defense systems with various ranges, including Bavar 373, Khordad 3, Tabas, Kamin 2, Sayyad, and Talash which will not allow any intruder into the country’s sky. These air defense systems can also be set for export, breaking the monopolies in the market.
Ground Combat Systems
The equipment needed for ground defense -from light weapons to cars, personnel carriers and tanks- is one of the most profitable military equipment industries in the world. Iran’s defense industry has had a good progress in this field too and can sell its products abroad.
One of the products is tank Karrar which was used by the Resistance forces in their fight against the ISIS in Iraq; Karrar is compared to the Russian T-90 tank. Another product is the Iranian vehicle called Toofan that was used by Iraqi soldiers fighting the ISIS. In the field of light weapons too, Iran has had significant achievements, producing Shaher sniper rifle as well as other equipment that can all be exported to other countries.
